Introduction and Aims

Ocean Park is proud to present The Ocean Park STEAM Student Competition 2020. Students in all parts of the world are invited to propose creative solutions to animal conservation issues. The Competition is aimed at encouraging students to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired from STEAM-related disciplines in proposing their innovative animal conservation solutions.

Student participants are to design and construct environmental enrichments for different animals. Environmental enrichments are essentially “toys” which provide animals with a richer environment filled with physiological and psychological stimuli. Environmental enrichments are exceedingly important to wildlife rescue and research centres, zoos and aquariums. Not only are they essential for improving animal welfare, they also contribute to animal research, rehabilitation and release of wildlife.

Participants will have the opportunities to take part in animal conservation work to improve animals’ living environment, quality of life and welfare. They will also gain valuable hands-on experience and become next-generation “makers”.

  1. Maximum of 2 teams from each school;
  2. Maximum of 5 students in each team and each student can only be in 1 team;
  3. At least 1 supervising teacher from each school; and
  4. Top 5 schools in each topic of the First Round Assessment will be selected to enter the Final Round Presentation.
